The New Car Mark-Up

In the age of technology getting your hands on the cost or invoice of a new car is easier than ever before. If you want it bad enough. Someone out there has posted it somewhere. As a former salesman I can't say there has ever been a bigger game changer to the industry as the Internet.

However, maybe you don't know what car you want so you aren't to this point yet or maybe you just simply don't want to do the digging for these new car invoice figures. I can tell you that 10% is a common and reasonable expectaton of what most new car mark-ups wll be. Very simple actually. If I was showing a $20k car I usually knew I had around $2000 mark-up to play with. If it was a $50k car I could usually expect I could take off around $5000. I am not saying there are not exceptions to the rule but I cannot say I ever saw one worth noting.

If it's invoice figures you are wanting, they're out there I promise. Try my 10% rule though and you will probably quickly find you are splitting hairs trying to do better. Just a simple way for you to do some quick math in your head vs hours online trying to save another $25 on a $25,000 car.
